How the license works – explained simply

I’ll try to explain the most important points in a clear and simple way.

The license defines what rights you and I have and how much you’re allowed to stream, sell, and monetize the song.

In exchange for the one-time license fee, I allow you to earn money with my beat and your new song.
This means you can monetize your release without sharing your streaming or sales income with me (NO SPLIT), as long as you stay within the limits of the selected license.

What you’re allowed to do

With a valid license, you can:

• Sell CDs, Vinyl and digital downloads (NO SPLIT)

• Earn money from streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) (NO SPLIT)

• Monetize your YouTube videos (NO SPLIT)
  
  

What happens if my song takes off?

If the usage limits (streams, copies, etc.) defined in the license are exceeded, you have two options:

• Upgrade to a higher license

• Or, in the case of an exceptionally successful release, if you no longer wish to remain independent and intend to enter into a distribution or publishing/label deal for the song, the license terms must be renegotiated. In such case, we may agree on a fair share of mechanical royalties (streaming and sales income) instead of continuing under a standard license.

What happens if I sign a label or distribution deal?

As long as you stay independent, your license stays valid and you can keep using the beat without any issues.

If a third party gets involved and wants to earn money from the song as well — for example a label, distributor, or business partner — or if you sign a deal or sell your song or catalog, we will need to renegotiate the terms. This is simply because the license is for you as the artist only, not for labels or other third parties.

Radio, TV & performance royalties

If the song is played on radio or TV, the broadcaster must pay performance royalties to the performing rights organization (PRO).

These royalties are separate from streaming income and are split 50/50 between us as songwriters.
Once the song is registered correctly, the PRO automatically distributes the money to both parties.

Protection for you (Content ID & claims)

The license also protects you from unjustified copyright claims, especially on YouTube.

Since the beat is non-exclusive, no licensee is allowed to register the beat or song with a Content ID system.
If another artist who licensed the same beat attempts to do so, you can simply submit your license to YouTube and the issue will be resolved.

There is no need for us to register the song with Content ID in order to monetize it — monetization through streaming platforms and YouTube works independently of Content ID.

Protection for me

The agreement also protects my rights as the producer.

If a licensee exceeds the agreed limits and refuses to upgrade or negotiate, I am legally entitled to submit the agreement to platforms like Spotify or YouTube, which can result in the song being taken down.

Bottom line

The license is designed to be:

• Fair for both sides

• Safe and transparent

• Flexible as your song grows

You get clear rights, full monetization, and peace of mind — and I retain control over my work in case the license terms are not respected.
